Operating a successful Shopify store in today’s e-commerce landscape means balancing data-driven marketing with ever-evolving global privacy regulations. For merchants selling into the EU, UK, or US, staying compliant with GDPR and CCPA is no longer optional - it's a core component of building customer trust.
We know that every e-commerce business has a unique risk tolerance and distinct operational needs. That’s why we are excited to introduce GDPR/CCPA Consent Tracking, giving you full, granular control over how visitor data is passed to Google Ads and GA4.
With this update, compliance isn’t a complex engineering riddle; it’s a single click on your dashboard.
We’ve stripped away the complexity of privacy tech. You can now choose between two straightforward tracking modes based on your store's compliance strategies:
🔒 Track all (Default)
🔒 Respect Consent

Zero Guesswork (Built on Shopify's Customer Privacy API): Instead of relying on unreliable IP country detection, Omega syncs directly with Shopify’s native Customer Privacy API (and major third-party consent apps). Consent decisions come straight from the source.
Unified Tracking Alignment: No disparate settings. One single toggle ensures your data behavior remains perfectly mirrored across both your Google Ads conversions and GA4 analytics.
Frictionless Setup: No code, no complex triggers. You can toggle this feature on or off directly from your Omega Google Ads - Home dashboard at any time. Changes take effect instantly for new events.

| Shopper Location | Consent Banner Action | Your Selected Mode | Sent to Google Ads & GA4? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Not in a regulated region | — | Any | ✅ Yes |
| Regulated | Accepted | Any | ✅ Yes |
| Regulated | Declined | Track all | ✅ Yes |
| Regulated | Declined | Respect consent | ❌ No |
💡 Note: If a shopper's consent state cannot be determined immediately (e.g., if a page event fires before the banner fully loads), Omega plays it safe under the "Respect Consent" mode and halts data transmission.
We believe privacy tools should be accessible to growing brands and enterprise stores alike.
Free Plan: Access Consent Tracking explicitly for Google Ads.
Paid Plans: Access Consent Tracking synchronized for both Google Ads and GA4.
If you flip the switch to Respect Consent, you will likely notice a drop in reported conversions inside your Omega dashboard and Google accounts. Do not panic - this means the feature is working perfectly.
Visitors who opt-out of tracking are doing exactly that. While your total orders inside Shopify will remain accurate, the declined events will be cleanly filtered out before reaching Google to preserve your compliance standards. In your Omega order tables, these will simply be labeled as Declined for your reporting clarity.
